MTN Lagos Fashion and Design week features a combination of fashion and design-focused activities, talent hunt for international modelling contracts and Young Designer of the Year as well as exhibitions of creative works ranging from arts, interior designs, photography, and architecture to technology, among others.

The winners of the edition included Mrs. Ayotomi Rotimi and Miss Jenevieve Aken, who won the MTN/British Council Young Entrepreneur award and MTN Young Model of the year award respectively, carting home a cash prize of one million naira (N1 million) each. Mrs. Binta Shuaibu emerged the MTN/British Council Young Designer of the year, carting home the star prize of a brand new Hyundai ix35 SUV.

Speaking at a press conference to officially flag off the second edition of the show, the General Manager, Consumer Marketing, MTN Nigeria, Mr. Kola Oyeyemi, represented by the Senior Manager, Segment Marketing, MTN Nigeria, Mrs. Cherry Eromosele, said the MTN LF&DW is a fantastic platform to give the deserved exposure to some of Nigeria’s great but not too well-known talents, who will be groomed, mentored and given the opportunity to showcase their designs at a world-class exhibition. He said this is in accordance with MTN’s resolve to contribute to the development of the Nigerian economy by empowering different categories of people.

“MTN is not just in the business of providing its customers with reliable ICT solutions, we are committed to positively impacting the lives of the people in our communities through a variety of ways. Fashion is one of such ways, and a particularly effective one because it cuts across different ages, professions, gender, religion and economic classes,” Oyeyemi stated.

Also speaking at the conference, Mrs. Omoyemi Akerele, Managing Director, Style House File, the main promoters of the event, said that the goal is to primarily make a positive impact in the Nigerian fashion industry. According to her, a minimum of twenty established designers are expected to take part in the show this year. Another twelve young up and coming designers selected from auditions in Port-Harcourt, Abuja and Lagos will also showcase their collections during the four-day show, she added.

“Five LFDW designers attended Pitti Immagine- Fashion Fair in Florence, Italy which brought together fashion buyers, international press and key players in the international fashion industry. The response we received to their work was phenomenal and we have created an international appetite for Nigerian fashion as more international fashion buyers are looking in the direction of Nigeria to stock their stores and are all eager to see what comes out of Nigeria this fashion season,” she said.

The LFDW Young Designer of the Year will get a sum of four million naira; Young Model of the Year will bag one million naira and a contract with a modelling agency while Creative Entrepreneur of the Year will get a sum of two million naira.
