Nigeria : Players’ Agents Workshop Ends in Lagos

The inaugural edition of the NFF/FIFA Licensed Players’ Agents Workshop rounded off yesterday at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Lekki, Lagos.

Speaking yesterday, NFF President Aminu Maigari hailed Matchmakers Consult International, organizers of the two-day event for the sheer courage, perseverance and hard work that culminated in the staging of the programme.

He also advised the participants to “listen, learn and retain the knowledge that would make you all better persons in your vocation”, while also applauding FIFA President Joseph Sepp Blatter for releasing Mr. Marco Antonio Leal, Group Leader, Players’ Status Department at FIFA to fly to Nigeria for the workshop.

Marco Leal spoke on ‘Players’ Agents: A World of Opportunities” and “Player Transfer: TMS FIFA’s New Representation Regime”, while former Nigeria international midfielder Nasiru Jibril, who is presently the Personal Assistant to the NFF President, spoke on “Managing Crisis in the Transfer Process”.

Dr. Roberto Branco Martins, General Manager, European Football Agents Association delivered a paper on “Managing the Tripartite Relationship: Player-FA-Club”.

Yesterday’s session also saw the General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Barrister Musa Amadu, a lawyer and FIFA Master’s degree holder, speaking lucidly on “Agents as Stakeholders in Nigerian Football”, while Barrister Okey Obi, NFF’s Principal Legal Officer, presented a paper on “Regulatory Provisions Governing Player Transfer”.

Participants included the Ondo State Commissioner for Local Government, Mr. Oladiran Iyantan, Kogi State Commissioner for Commerce, Dr. Abdulkareem Abubakar, renowned players’ manager Friday Nwankwo Kujah, respected club administrators Mike Idoko and Fatai Olayinka, former Nigeria international Dele Bob-Manuel and Roger Appleby, Consultant to Lagos State on Football Development.

Barrister Ibrahim Eddy Mark, chairman of the NFF Appeals Committee and Barrister Patrick Ikwueto (SAN) were also at yesterday’s session.
