The 2010/2011 Nigeria Premier League (NPL) Champions, Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt, will depart the country on Thursday for Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, for their CAF Champions League match on Sunday.

Chima Acheru, the club’s Media Officer, said in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos that a delegation of 18 players and 10 officials would depart from Port Harcourt.

The statement said the Dolphins, appearing for the third time in the competition, would be hosted by Sony ela Nguema.

It recalled that the club made its first appearance in 1998, ending up in the group stage, while in 2005, they reached the second round.

“In the CAF Confederations Cup, they were finalists in 2005, played in the first round of the 2007 edition and reached the second round of the 2008 edition.

“They also appeared in the first round of the CAF Cup Winners Cup in 2002,” the statement said.

It recalled that in 2005 when the club played in the CAF Champions League they started in Malabo with Renacimiento and qualified on 3-1 goals aggregate for the group stage.

The team lost 1-0 to Renacimiento in Malabo but won 3-0 in Port Harcourt.

Dolphins other achievements include winning the Nigeria Premier league in 1997, 2004 and 2011 and the Football Association Cup in 2001, 2004, 2006 and 2007.
