The Chestertons Polo in the Park event at Hurlingham Park brings together a dazzling combination of international polo and family entertainment to form an unforgettable day out.
In a flurry of mallets, champagne corks and sinking stilettos, the Hurlingham Club opened its emerald green lawn for a day of chukkas and drinking out of vaguely exotic fruits. Yes, this was the Chestertons Polo in the Park and yes; it was a riot of fun. As the sun beat down on the Mahiki lounge, Spencer Matthews and Hugo Taylor compared sunglasses and tan lines, while George Meyrick appeared unfazed by a mid-game de-horsing as he and teammate George Sunderland held court with a herd of admiring fillies.
Representing Lagos, Nigeria, Team Shoreline and Captain Kola Karim were on fire as they took the early lead in the match against Davos. As the heat took its toll, fresh horses were required. A Davos goal was deemed a no score, but the points were not removed, leaving them match in a draw. Well done Team Shoreline.
With unlimited amounts of the fizzy stuff, the party continued well into the evening, or at least long enough for rapper Flo Rida to make an entirely surreal cameo. Indeed, the excitement proved a little too much for some – one guest was found fast sleep beneath a picnic table, with a Hermès tie around his head and a coconut in his blazer pocket. Giddy up!
