Operators in the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) subsector should get ready to step into business and investment opportunities to be made available by the take off of the much expected Abuja rail mass transit system next year.

The minister of state for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, stated that the rail system would take off with inherent investment opportunities that need to be tapped into by investors towards wealth creation.

Akinjide stated this yesterday at the occasion of the second FCT Entrepreneurship Conference and Merit Awards (FECMA) organised by the Abuja Enterprise Agency (AEA) in Abuja.

“The rail network, as we are aware, has the full accompaniment of rail stations and therefore, will provide huge investment corridors for SMEs. Towards all these, the AEA is already bracing itself and building necessary capacity to take advantage of the huge prospects,” the minister of state stated.

Akinjide, who was represented by Mrs Uchenna Okafor, further called for capacity development in the nation’s tourism industry to accommodate Nigeria’s emerging global relevance as indicated by recent world events that took place in Nigeria.

Speaking with newsmen at the event, the managing director/CEO, AEA, Aisha Abubakar, noted that entrepreneurs are yet to fully embrace the services of the agency as expected, a situation which has further necessitated the conference.

“In the Abuja Enterprise Agency, we do not have as much traffic as we would like but this is one of the reasons we are organising this programme. We wish to inform the world that we are here and proffer services that could enable SMEs to grow and develop,” Abubakar said.

Also speaking, the president, Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME), Garba Ibrahim Gusau, called on all arms of government to create a conducive environment for entrepreneurs to strive.
