PEPSI_ADCompany pull commercial after backlash over racial stereotypes

OFFENSIVE: The advert shows a battered white woman on crutches being asked to identify a suspect out of a police line-up of three black men and a goat

SOFT DRINKS giant Pepsi has withdrawn an online advert due to criticism that it portrays racist stereotypes and makes fun of violence against women.

The commercial shows a battered white woman on crutches being asked to identify a suspect out of a police line-up of three black men and a goat.

Pepsi has apologised and taken “full responsibility” for any offense the ad, promoting the company’s Mountain Dew soft drink, has caused.

Their statement read: “We apologise for this video and take full responsibility. We have removed it from all Mountain Dew channels, and Tyler is removing it from his channels, as well.”

In the video, the goat threatens to beat the woman up if she identifies him to the police.

The woman eventually screams in horror and runs away.

The dialogue in the clip is a wordplay around “Dew It” – the slogan promoting Mountain Dew.

The material, developed by African-American rapper Tyler the Creator, has been removed from its online channels.
