President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria(AFN) Chief Solomon Ogba, has revealed plans by the federation to establish youth development camps across three zones in Nigeria.
Ogba stated that the aim of setting up these camps,will be to groom athletes that would be discovered at various grassroots competitions,and turning them into world beaters.
“We are going to have three camps. We want the athletes that are discovered to be camped there and at the same time be going to school. So we have asked the State governments to help with schools we can put these kids,” Ogba said in Lagos.
“Besides we are going to have holiday camps for students. We have coaches who will be at these centres. We are doing this with the intentions of having a pool of talents athletes,” he added.
Two weeks ago,the President of the International Athletics Amateur Federations(IAAF) Lamine Diacke,came to Nigeria and inaugurated an ultra modern Sports complex.
