King Sunny Ade, the juju music maestro will top the bill featuring several Nigerian entertainers to kickstart pulsating African rhythms at Nigeria House, Theatre Square, Stratford between 19 July to 12 August. His performances form a key part of the New World Nigeria programme this summer.

Renowned as one of the most influential musicians in the world music genre, Sunny will perform at the extravaganza on 23 July, with his compatriots, Wizboy, TuFace, MI and Tiwa Savage.

On 24 July Sunny will again take to the stage with two other Nigerian stars, Keziah Jones and Bez, showcasing their individual talents.

On 25 July the Nigerian Diasporama All Star band featuring Asa, Dele Sosimi and Tony Allen will perform, followed by Seun Kuti and his Egypt 80 band.

Waheed Olagunju, General Manager, Strategic Planning, of Nigeria’s Bank of Industry (BOI), which is sponsoring the Nigerian stars as part of the country’s

promotion of its culture, said: “Music lovers in London are in for a treat! They will enjoy top Nigerian talent, as we showcase different genres of music for everyone.”

Sunny Ade alone should be more than worth the admission fee. Apart from being an acclaimed international entertainer, King Sunny Ade has collaborated with major

artists such as Stevie Wonder, Manu Dibango, Youssou N’Dour and Salif Keita.

In 2008 Sunny was given an award for his outstanding contribution to world music at the Reggae and world music awards held at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York.

Nigeria House will also showcase other creative arts such as Nollywood films, arts and crafts, and fashion exhibitions between 19 July and 12 August. Wole Soyinka’s play: The lion and the jewel will be staged late in July, The king must dance naked, by Fred Agbeyegbe, will be shown at the same venue on the 4th of August.
