The Lagos State government has called for proposals from private investors for the upgrading of Apapa Amusement Park and the refurbishment of the Eko Tourist Cruise boat.

In a statement issued in Lagos yesterday, the commissioner for tourism and inter-governmental relations, Mr. Oladisun Holloway, said the government had considered it necessary to upgrade the park.

Holloway said the Eko Tourist Cruise boat would be rehabilitated to be later converted to a stationary floating lounge for leisure, relaxation and social engagements.

“The state government hopes to return the Apapa Amusement Park to its former glory in about 18 months through a public-private partnership deal.

“It has also decided to renovate and put back to use the 350-capacity Eko Tourist Cruise boat purchased by the state in 1998.

“We intend to rehabilitate and convert the vessel into a floating event facility that would attract various corporate and social events,” the commissioner said.

Holloway said the state government was determined to make the state the preferred destination for business and leisure.

He said the ministry would continue to operate within the framework of partnership arrangement in its drive to develop the tourism potential in the state.
