AN EGYPTAIR Flight from Paris to Cairo has disappeared from radar with 66 people on board, the airline says.

One British passenger is among those on board, which also included seven crew and three security personnel.

EgyptAir said passengers on board also included 30 Egyptians, 15 French citizens, as well as people from Belgium, Canada, Algeria, Sudan, Chad and Portugal. There were three children on board.

The Airbus A320 was flying at 37,000ft (11,300m) when it went missing over the eastern Mediterranean after losing contact at 02:45 Cairo time (01:45 BST), an official said.

The Egyptian military has denied a report from EgyptAir that a distress signal was sent by the plane.

A Greek aviation official told the AFP news agency that the plane crashed “around 130 nautical miles” off the southern Greek island of Karpathos, although this has not been confirmed.

A UK Foreign Office spokeswoman said: “Following reports that EgyptAir flight MS804 has gone missing en route from Paris to Cairo, we are in urgent contact with the local authorities in Paris and Cairo to obtain further information.”

EgyptAir has set up a helpline for passengers’ relatives which can be reached on +202 25989320 from outside Egypt or on any mobile phone.

Those in Egypt can call 0800 77770000 from landlines.
