Aisha BuhariMrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, the wife of the president, has said she is concerned about the plight of Nigerian mothers and their children.

A statement issued by her Senior Special Assistant, Hajo Sani, hinted that the United Nations (UN) under Secretary General (USG) and Executive Director of UNFPA, Professor Babatunde Osotimehin, and a team of development partners are exploring opportunities through the Office of the Wife of the President to develop a programme of support that would complement efforts at improving health, nutrition and population outcomes in Nigeria.
According to the Executive Director, the programme will target the poor and vulnerable in Nigeria. He mentioned that this is good practice globally, with Kenya and Namibia having used similar programmes to support health improvement efforts.

To confirm the commitment of the president’s wife, Sani indicated to the meeting that the wife of the president is concerned about the plight of mothers and children in Nigeria. “She is determined to use her privileged position to become an advocacy champion for raising attention and resources necessary to make a difference in Maternal New born and Child Health outcomes in Nigeria.”
