Imo State government at the weekend rewarded players and management of Heartland Football Club for lifting the Nigeria Federation Cup trophy.
Before arriving at the Government House for the reception, the players, management and members of the supporters club in a motor cage moved round the streets of Owerri in jubilation for their victory.
Welcoming them, Governor Rochas Okorocha expressed the determination of his government to promote sports activities in the state.
He said that the state government has approved the construction of ultra modern stadium in Orlu and Okigwe to promote sporting activities in the state, adding that the present administration has made tremendous changes in every sector of the economy such as sports, education and infrastructural development.
Okorocha disclosed that the state government has approved the payment of outstanding debts owed to Heartland FC players and assured them that plots of lands will be given to them if they win CAF competition.
He commended the Heartland FC team players for successfully defending the FA Cup which is the first time in the history of Imo state having such luck and opportunity for the past 60 years of the cup competition in Nigeria.
