Lagos Sets Up Medical Salary Structure Committe

Lagos State government yesterday set up an inter-ministerial committee to examine the implementation of a new medical salary structure apparently to forestall a future crisis with the medical personnel under its service.

The state Head of Service, Mr. Adesegun Ogunlewe, unveiled the 11-man committee in a statement with a mandate to look at how implement a new salary structure as it affects the Health Service Commission and Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

As contained in the statement, Ogunlewe appointed Director of Finance and Administration in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Mrs. Jokotola Ojosipe-Ogundimu, as the chairperson of the committee.

According to the statement, the terms of reference of the committee include examining the discrepancies in the implementation of the new salary structure as it affects doctors and other health workers at the LASUTH and HSC.

The statement said the 11-man committee “has the mandate to assess the processing of salaries after promotion and examine the issue of unpaid salaries among others. “The committee will also review the administrative procedures in the agencies, make recommendations and report on terms of reference and any other matter which the Committee may consider necessary”.

The statement added that the committee “has three weeks from the date of its first sitting to carry out the assignment and submit its report.”

Other members of the committee include Director (Establishments), Mr. Adesina Odeyemi, Director ( Accounts), ; Mrs. Folake Onabolu, Director (Finance and Administration).
