A HARROW MP visited Nigeria to help a campaign to ensure every child gets an education.

Bob Blackman, Harrow East MP, spent a week in Nigeria, coordinated by ActionAid, addressing problems surrounding securing a place for every child of primary school age.

Mr Blackman travelled with two other MPs on the trip funded by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and visited one of 72 schools that have received assistance from £4 million project Transforming Education for Girls in Nigeria and Tanzania.

Mr Blackman: “One of the key barriers to education is that of fees and levies and there are mixed messages about whether young people are required to pay fees and what happens if they are unable to afford them. The adequacy of teacher training and the qualifications of teachers are also a severe challenge.”
