Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has continued to keep a low profile on who will replace Dr. Amos Adamu on the vacant seat of Confederation of Africa Football, CAF, executive committee.
The position became vacant as a result of the three-year suspension slammed on Dr. Amos Adamu (Nigeria’s representative in CAF) by Federation of International Football Association, FIFA, after his alleged involvement in the cash-for-vote scandal during the bidding for 2018 and 2022 football World Cup.
Speaking on a radio programme yesterday, NFF’s acting Secretary-General, Barrister Musa Amadu, said that the Nigerian football ruling body is not ready to make any proclamation on who to replace Dr. Adamu on the vacant seat, adding that Nigerians would be informed of NFF’s decision after very soon.
He said: “Due to some strategic reasons, we (NFF) are not ready to announce who will replace Nigeria on the vacant CAF executive committee seat yet.
“I hope all stakeholders and Nigerians will understand our position on this issue and give us more time to come out with the right person for such important position.”
Meanwhile, former Nigeria Football Association, NFA, Secretary-General , Sanni Toro, has warned the executive board of NFF and the National Sports Commission, NSC, led by Supervising Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi to ensure that they choose a competent football administrator for the vacant CAF position.
Toro, however, stated that the vacant CAF seat is not an automatic position to be filled by a Nigerian, adding that if the country fails to act fast, CAF could get a replacement from anywhere on the continent.
Adamu’s tenure in CAF expires in March 2013 and Nigeria is expected to fill the vacancy before September 2012 .
P.M Sports can report that names like the incumbent President of the NFF, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, former NFA Chairman, Brig. General Dominic Oneya, CAF Media Committee member, Paul Bassey and Sani Toro have been linked with the vacant CAF position.
