The chairman dropped the hint while speaking with journalists yesterday in Minna, saying discussions had reached advanced stage among his colleagues across the country on the need for opting for the emergence of a consensus candidate for the plum job of the ruling party.
His words: “We support politics by consensus and we have suggested same to all the states and the zones and the response we are receiving is that they have bought into it.
“Even the zones are already aligning so that they will come to the national convention with only one candidate and that will bring peace and harmony in the party”, he stated.
According to him, consensus was a normal thing in politics, adding that he was optimistic that the North/ East geo-political zone where the position was zoned to, would present a single candidate that would be generally acceptable to all.
He disclosed that stakeholders from his zone, the North/Central had proposed to meet on Monday night to ratify the zone’s candidates for the positions of National Youth Leader and Legal Adviser, saying,“we will come out with one candidate for each of the positions.”
