President Jacob Zuma of South Africa arrived in Nigeria on Saturday morning for a working visit to that country, the Presidency said.
His arrival in the country’s capital city, Abuja, was aimed at strengthening relations between South Africa and Nigeria, spokesperson Mac Maharaj said in a statement.
Zuma is expected to hold talks with his counterpart President Goodluck Jonathan later on Saturday morning.
“The talks are expected to include progress made by the South Africa–Nigeria Bi-National Commission which is led at deputy/vice-president level, and other regional and continental issues.
“Among the highlights of the visit, President Zuma will this morning address the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Memorial Lecture to celebrate the life and times of this highly regarded fighter for peace and freedom,” Maharaj said.
He said Zuma will later on Saturday head to Yola in Adamawa State, where he will receive an honorary doctoral degree in Humane Letters from the American University of Nigeria.
This was in recognition of his contribution to humankind through outstanding leadership, creativity and excellence.
