A deadly combination of lung cancer and the auto-immune disease, Churg Strauss Syndrome, accounted for the death of Umaru Yar’Adua in May 2010, according to a new Wikileaks cable released by the whistle-blower website.

The release of this information, part of 251,287 cables on the website of the whistleblower, comes as his wife, the former First Lady, Turai Yar’Adua, may herself be terminally ill as well. Turai returned from Saudi Arabia last week and may be headed for the United

Kingdom for medical care as she is she is reported to be suffering from ovarian cancer, the latest in a series of calamities besetting the political and biological families of the late leader since his death.
Wikileaks’ revelations about Yar’Adua’s health issues tally with SaharaReporters’ previous exposés on his health, beginning in 2007 when Mr. Yar’Adua made a prolonged trip to Germany in connection with his failing health.

The new cable, which was created in 2009 by US Ambassador Robin Sanders, identified Peter Galle, a German doctor and the Director of Internal Medicine at Universitats Medizin in Mainz, a city where Yar’Adua went for his last medical trip in Germany, as revealing that he diagnosed Yar’Adua with terminal lung cancer sometime in April 2008.? ?Dr. Galle was surprised that Yar’Adua had survived longer than expected.  He also told US officials that reports of other ailments, such as Churg-Strauss syndrome and liver problems, were “accurate.”  This verifies SaharaReporters revelations that Yar’Adua had Churg Strauss disease.

It was in October 2008 that SaharaReporters revealed that Yar’Adua had terminal lung cancer in addition to Churg Strauss.    And on November 26, 2009, Yar’Adua’s doctor, Barau Banye disclosed that Yar’Adua was suffering from “acute pericarditis” but that said he had responded “remarkably well” to treatment.   Yar’Adua was a chain smoker and had continued smoking after he was diagnosed, according to a family source.??In April 2011, Yar’Adua’s first daughter, Maryam,   lost a contest for the Katsina Central seat in the House of Representatives. The seat was previously occupied by her husband, Badamosi Kabir, but he has been in a London hospital since January when he fell into a diabetic coma.  Yar’Adua’s brother, Lt. Colonel, Audu Abdullazeez, popularly known as “Audu Soja,” also lost his election in April as a deputy gubernatorial candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), in Katsina State.
On the political front:

•    Yar’Adua’s key confidante, former Delta State Governor James Ibori, is in prison in the United Kingdom awaiting trial following his extradition from Dubai, UAE to face money laundering charges. Y

•    Yar’Adua’s former Attorney General, Aondoakaa, is marooned in his village in Benue State after he was humiliated out of office; banned by a judge from running for public office; stripped of his SAN title for two years; and had his United States visa revoked.  Aondoakaa is now a rice farmer in his village;

•    The powerful former Chief Economic Adviser to Yar’Adua, Tanimu Kurfi, is virtually in hiding, although he was sighted recently in New York; and

•    The former Principal Presidential Secretary, Mr. David Edevbie, is wanted in the United Kingdom to answer criminal charges.

The only Yar’Adua era appointee still in government is Mrs. Farida Waziri who enjoys protection from Goodluck Jonathan’s powerful Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allsion Madueke. The oil minister is the leader of  the Jonathan cabal, which consists of the National Security Adviser, Owoeye Azazi; the Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim; the Attorney General, Mohammed Bello Adoke; Nigerian’s aviation minister, Stella Oduah-Ogiemwonyi , Prof. Isoun Turner and Senator Emmanuel Paulker of Bayelsa state.
