A book launch apparently scheduled to honour the retiring Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Aloysius Katsina –Alu was abruptly canceled by sms messages to invited guests. The book launch had been scheduled for next Thursday at the Yar’Adua Center in Abuja.

A lawyer, Moses Adaguusu, sent the terse message earlier today announcing the postponement of the book launch. The controversial chief justice is due for retirement this month after 44 years as a law officer in various capacities following his retirement from the Nigerian Army.

Legal observers said a report of “NBA committee on crisis in the Judiciary” which was presented to the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) president on the 8th of July may have adversely swayed Mr. Katsina –Alu and his handlers to postpone the book launch.

The report, which examined the role-played by the CJN and some lawyers in aborting the Court of Appeal verdict on the Sokoto State gubernatorial election heavily indicted the CJN as well as a former president of the NBA, Wole Olanipekun (SAN), Alfred N. Agu, Esq. and Yahaya Mahmood, Esq.

Incidentally, Yahaya Mahmood was one of the lawyers awarded the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) under shady circumstance by the outgoing CJN.
