Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Bala Mohammed has disclosed that the administration plans to build 1500 houses on the land earmarked for the Abuja Centenary Village.
Mohammed who disclosed this when he received the Polish Deputy Marshal, Region of Wielkopolska, Poland, Mr. Leszek Wojtasiak who led a business delegation to his office on Friday, said the centenary village would upscale the social housing scheme of the administration.
He explained that while the centenary village was conceptualized as part of plans to commemorate the 100 years of the amalgamation of the northern and southern protectorates of Nigeria by the British colonialists, the houses would go a long way to reduce the housing needs of residents of the FCT.
The minister further informed the delegation that his administration has unbundled the land administration of the FCT and opened it for full participation of the organised private sector, consortia as well as foreign investors, a move he said had culminated to the Abuja Land Swap Model initiative where about 13 investors were already partnering with the FCT administration to open up about 10 new districts by providing infrastructure and recouping their investment from the sale of such land.
Mohammed called for closer collaboration with the Polish government as well as its crème of businessmen through the Abuja Investment Company Limited (AICL) and the Abuja Infrastructure Investment Centre (AIIC) for the mutual benefit of both nations and also for bilateral relations with the capital city of Poland, Warsaw to share experiences especially in city management.
Speaking earlier, Wotjasiak said his delegation was in Nigeria to identify areas of possible collaboration and partnership in areas that will be mutually beneficial to both countries.
