The Mimiko Campaign Organisation (MCO) yesterday raised alarm over alleged plan by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to import Ibadan factional leader of the Oyo State National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Lateef Akinsola (a.k.a. Tokyo), to rig the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo State.
A statement signed by the campaign office’s Director of Media and Publicity (MOC) Mr. Bisi Kolawole alleged that the leadership of the ACN has already contacted Akinsola who is currently having running battles with the security agencies in Oyo State to unleash mayhem in Ondo State by leading some of his people ahead of the election.
This, Kolawole said, was part of the ACN’s orchestrated plan to capture Ondo State to its fledgling empire in the south-west.
The statement reads, “We are aware of the latest in the dastard plans of those who have vowed to publicly and unashamedly too, that they will capture Ondo State and merge it with their empire to maim and possibly kill our members and leaders with a view to striking terror in their hearts. They have been bringing all the known dreaded thugs and killers into our state…
“In Ondo State, members of the state chapter of the NURTW and Road Employers Transport Association of Nigeria (RETAN) are happy with the positive development that the Olusegun Mimiko government has brought to the state.
“Today, they all have new taxis, buses including one of the best modern motor parks in Nigeria built for them by this government. It will now be wrong to bring in members of the same association to…Ondo State to cause trouble. This is akin to setting members of the same association against one another and the resultant effect is better not imagined.
“While we are appealing to Tokyo to please stay out of Ondo State, we want to appeal to the national leadership of the NURTW and other transport workers associations in Nigeria to please appeal to Tokyo and his boys not to allow the ACN use them on a journey to perdition….”
In its reaction, the Director of Media, Publicity and Strategy of the ACN’s Akeredolu Campaign Organisation (ACO) Mr Idowu Ajanaku denied the allegation, saying LP is jittery. He asked, “When we helped Governor Olusegun Mimiko to win the 2007 governorship election in Ondo State, did we use thugs?”
