The government had after the  protest over subsidy, set up the Petroleum Industry Bill Task Force Refinery Committee and the Nuhu Ribadu-led Revenue Task Force.

But Lagos Chairman of PENGASSAN, Reverend Folorunso Oginni told Daily Trust that the committees are wasteful ventures as the mere passage of the aborted Petroleum Industry Bill would address the purpose the committees are set up for.

“All these committees do not arise. If PIB is passed into law, everything we can think of concerning the oil sector will be taken care of. We don’t need all these so-called committees you are talking about. Look into the PIB and let it be passed into law. And let us follow its content.’’

The chairman also said the decision of the Federal Government to submit fresh version of the bill must be backed with the will-power to ensure that it eventually becomes law.

According to him,the Federal Government was wrong to have left out PENGASSAN on the PIB task force.

‘’We were  surprised that no industry person was put there. Though the government might say that the President of the Trade Union Congress, Peter Esele is from oil industry but what we are saying is that at that level, he is no more representing the oil industry.

“He’s representing the entire workforce. Somebody from the oil industry must be there and we have made our position known to the government.”
