CHAMPAGNE MOMENT: The Mercedes star celebrates his win

LEWIS HAMILTON is now 4/7 with bookmakers to win the drivers’ championship after overtaking Nico Rosberg in the standings. Rosberg is out to 6/4 from even money.

Hamilton took the lead in the world championship for the first time since May with victory in the Singapore Grand Prix today (September 21).

The Briton’s main title rival and Mercedes team-mate, Rosberg, retired with electronics problems to slip three points behind with five races to go and 150 points available.

In a dramatic race, Hamilton briefly lost the lead to Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel at his final pit stop but soon swept past to take his seventh win of the season.

Vettel took second after a battle with Daniel Ricciardo and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso.

Bookmakers now think that the race for the title could go all the way however, with some offering 1/6 that the title goes all the way to the final race in Abu Dhabi where double points will be available.

Hamilton’s win in Singapore means that he is just two races away from Nigel Mansell’s British record of race wins and he is 4/1 to equal the record before the end of the season and 7/2 to break it this season.
