GEJ Football Club debuts in Abuja

SUPPORTERS of President Goodluck Jonathan at the weekend disclosed that a new football club, known as Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ) FC, which they said has been registered as one of the teams to compete in the 2014/2015 season of the Nigeria Nationwide League.

Disclosing the registration of GEJ FC in a chat with The Guardian at the weekend, proprietor of the club, Barrister Chukwuemeka Kanu, noted that the friends and admirers of the president decided to register the club to show appreciation for the love and support which the president has given to sports and football development in particular.

Chukwuemeka said through his support for sports, the president has ensured that the Nigerian youths were provided with job opportunities, adding that through the GEJ FC more of the country’s youths with football skills would be provided with gainful employment opportunities.

He noted that though the club would be competing from the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja as its home, GEJ FC will set up academies and training camps in all the six geopolitical zones of the country, stressing that the academies will serve as its feeder teams.

“We are determined to move GEJ FC to the elite division, as soon as we start from the Nationwide League season of 2014/2015.

“This is our own contribution and appreciation of Mr. President’s love and support to sports development in the country. Through his appreciation of our youths, who excel in sports, job opportunities have been opened in the sports sector and GEJ FC is one of the opportunities for youths who have football skills to become gainfully employed,” Kanu assured.
